task list can not be found in to-do-list

I just upgraded from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. In the to-do bar and in
the calendar view it just says "operation failed. An object could not be
found" where the task list would appear. In the task list view - my tasks are
there but the "to-do list" folder view it says "can not display the folder".
I seem to be missing something. Any help?

Try resetting the To-Do Bar;
Start- Run; outlook.exe /resettodobar

After doing an upgrade it is also recommended to recreate your mail profile.

I tried both with no success. My to do list folder can not be displayed in
the task view but the task folder opens fine.

I'm thinking about uninstalling Outook then re-installing. I'll cpy my pst
file first then import it. Do you think that will do i?

A repair on Office doesn't help with configuration issues (as no settings
will be deleted or reset in the process) so then the issue would need to be
an installation issue if it is going to fix it.

Backing up your pst-file is a good thing but there is no need to import it;
use File- Open- Outlook Data File... instead.

If the issue is with your pst-file, then scanning it for errors with
scanpst.exe might fix it for you without reinstalling Outlook.

I had the same problem and have just solved it.

Firstly I closed Outlook and I found my pst file and copied it (just in case).

Then I went to Control Panel / mail / data files and then chose the data
files tab. I then found I had two pst files (both the same) listed. I removed
one of them, re-opened Outlook and everything that was missing re-appeared.

You can then remove the copy of the pst file you made, unless you want to
keep it as a backup. I am now going to regularly copy my pst file in case of
problems.

This fix worked well, I have been trying for weeks to solve this and finally
found this posting. I beleive this problem occured after instaling an Office
update which included the "Windows Live" stuff and I have had a couple of
issues since this being the most troublesome. unintalling "Windows Live"
corrected the others.

I have been searching for months to try and fix the sam issue and tried many
solutions without sucess. This worked perfectly - thank you, thank you, thank

I had this issue for months too and couldn't fix it. Ian C's solution is
exactly what I needed. It worked perfectly. Thanks.

Perfect Answer for a age old problem!

As just an aside, the file copy part, athrough absolutely best practices
(!!!!!!) was not an essential part of the fix.

Don't get me wrong, you must be backing up ALL .PST files regularly or you
WILL be sorry some day. Deleting the duplicate entry in the Mail / Data Files
table does not delete files nor impact existing data.
