Question Turning off page numbers

Does anyone know how to turn off page numbers in a document? I have a very large document and a while ago I did Insert Page Numbers. Now I know that I can seperate the document into sections and add page numbers into each section (i.e. no page numbers in section 1, numbered pages in section 2, none again in section 3, etc.) However, I can't turn off the original page numbers in order to do this.

Any ideas?

Default Turning off page numbers

InsertPage Numbers insert a {Page} field. The field code is not
normally displayed so you see a number. Just delete either the field
or the number whichever is displayed.

Then see:

Thanks Greg. The link is very useful. However, I have no idea what you mean in the first paragraph. Where can I delete this from? If I view Headers & Footers, I can't delete the number. Also, the document is over 300 pages long - will I have to go to each page seperately?

If you inserted numbering via InsertPage Numbers, Word puts the Page
field inside a frame, anchored to the header (or footer). You should
be able to select this frame and press Delete. The article at
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...lyIndented.htm
explains how to do that.

To answer your final question: No, you don't have to delete the number
for each page, but you may have to do it for each section (if there is
more than one in your document).

When you view Headers/Footers, the page number is probably has a grey box
around it. You need to select and delete both that box (a frame) and the
number. You should only need to do this once, although if the document has
multiple sections, you may need to do it for each section. But certainly not
for each page.

You may need to be quite precise with the mouse to select the grey box.
