Default Troubleshoot section breaks and pagination

What to do when continuous section breaks result in unwanted new page
breaks?

I'm working on a long document with two different margin widths - one
standard (1.25") and one wide (2.5") on the outside, so I can have
marginal notes in frames in the wide margin. I've separated the
different margin sections with section breaks. This works fine except
where I want a continuous break - i.e. I want part of the page to have
a narrow margin (to fit tables in) and part to have a narrow one (for
text and marginal notes). Every continuous break results in a new
page. I've unchecked all pagination settings in Layout (keep with
next, widow/orphan etc). I just can't figure out why Word keeps
breaking the page. It's driving me crazy.

After you've inserted the new section, try to change the "Section
start" back to "Continuous", on the Layout tab of FilePage Setup.
