Default Office 2003 to Office 2007

Thanks JoAnn.

We are a privately owned company and I'm in charge of the IT department.
Anything the owner, and the key officers of the company, want for their home
(and kids') computer, they come to the IT department. My boss's son's
professor is asking the students to get Office 2007. My boss is ordering
the Office 2007 Ultimate!

Only the computer related stuffs for them. No coffee!

If it's a full version, he can uninstall 2003 if he wants. If it's an
upgrade, he can leave it installed. (I'd make a comment about the fact
that you are asking this and not your boss but I do things for my boss
that are somewhat outside of my scope of responsibilities. I don't do
coffee - period.)

Hello.

The son of my boss is in college. His laptop has Office Pro 2003. He
wants
to upgrade to Office Student 2007. Does he need to un-install the 2003
first or can he install the Office Student 2007 over it.

Thanks in advance.

The Office installation program will give you the option to keep or remove
the old version. If you keep the old version there can be problems but
there are KB articles http://support.microsoft.com/kb that tell how to
address these. It is "supported" but not "recommended" to have multiple
versions of Office on the same computer. Talk to the student and ask what
he wants you to do first.

Cheers,

Earle

Thanks. I'll ask him to un-install 2003 and install 2007. He can find his
way to access his documents after the 2007 is installed.

BTW - only one version of Outlook can be installed. If he leaves Outlook
2003 installed, Outlook 2007 will not be installed.

Thanks.

I told my boss to tell his son to un-install 2003 completely, first, before
installing 2007. This way he won't bother me at night or during the weekend
when his son (away in college) gets the 2007. We'll see.

Probably the best choice. May you have many sleep-filled nights and restful
weekends. :-)
