Cannot copy .pst file -- error is "another process locked file"
I cannot migrate my Outlook data (.pst files) from my old computer to my new
one. When I attempt to copy a .pst file on the old computer, I get error message "Cannot copy Outlook.pst; the process cannot access file because another process has locked a portion of the file". How do I determine what process is locking the file and how to unlock it? |

Did you exit Outlook completely? If so, see if Outlook is still running in
Task Manager. State what add-ins you have installed and the last action you took when you exited Outlook. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "R Carlson, NJ" R Carlson, wrote in message ... Russ,
Thanks for your suggestion. I determined that Palm One software was locking the file. By turning off the Palm One software, I was able to copy the Outlook.pst file. That's #1 on the Hit Parade of why Outlook won't close:
1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle. 2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support for an alleged fix. 3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus! 4. COM Add-ins. 5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background to check for new mail and fire reminders. 6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing mail. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "R Carlson, NJ" wrote in message news Russ, Thanks for your suggestion.
