Office 2000 Wants Install CD
Strange situation - a WinXP Pro SP3 laptop with Office 2000 installed, with all updates,
every time I click on Word, PowerPoint. etc. I get the Install dialog that asks for the MS Office CD. After clicking on Cancel a few times, the Office application finally comes up. I don't have the install CD with me. All Office 2000 applications seem to run fine except for this annoying glitch every time I start an Office 2000 application. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this?? Thanks!!! |

You missed this vital sentence:
I don't have the install CD with me. Perhaps you should take extra special care in reading the messages before jumping in and answering something that is not asked for. hth "JoAnn Paules [MVP]" wrote: Have you tried inserting the disk? -- THE INFORMATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. Office 2000 Wants Install CD
Let me rephrase my response: Can you get someone to send you the disk?

Office 2000 Wants Install CD
No.
I'm managing a laptop I set up years ago for my sister I'm visiting. The install CD is at my home, 230 miles away. When I drive home, I can't mail the CD back to my sister because she might use it as a coaster instead, or insert it upside-down, or spill tomato sauce on it, or smear it with fingerprints (this is why *I* am the person managing all the family computers It's been really really simple and flawless until this happened... I remember reading about this problem some years ago. I think it's caused by an Office update from Microsoft Update? Anyway, I was really hoping there was a solution. Toni "JoAnn Paules" wrote... I remember reading about this problem some years ago. I think it's caused by an Office update from Microsoft Update? Anyway, I was really hoping there was a solution. Yes it is to do with Updates and applies to all Microsoft Office Updates except that with effect from Office 2003, the installation creates a MSOCache (a hidden folder) in which all the necessary installation files are kept for updates and for "Detect & Repair" purposes. With Office 2000, this "technology" wasn't around and so people decided to create backups of their CDs and keep next to their system for anybody to help themselves. This was too much for Microsoft to stomach and so the new technique was implemented in Office 2003 et seq! Could you not copy the CDs and send it to her with the serial number inscribed on them with a permanent marker? Surely you can do it! The alternative is to search on the net and download from PirateBay. hth -- THE INFORMATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
