Default Style formatting lost on Restart Numbering

Hi!

I have a style I created based on no style that is a numbered list. When I
click on Restart numbering, one of two things happen: Sometimes the numbering
restarts, but my hanging indent changes and an additional tab is added, which
screws up the formatting. Sometimes, the above happens, and to add to my
misery, the numbering doesn't restart. It just ignores the command. I've
tried re-creating the style, and I've tried deleting my normal.dot and
creating the style from scratch in a new template. I keep getting the same
result...

Any ideas anyone?

Using LISTNUM fields to restart numbering may work better. See
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/...tbylistnum.htm.
