Find: how to go to thread containing NG message in Find results?
I use Find to search for a newsgroup thread with "foobar" in the subject
line. It finds many, one of which is the one I'm interested in. I can double-click on that line in the Find results to see the message. How can I go to the thread that contains that message? Also, what's the use of setting the flag in the Find results? It does not seem to set anything in the newsgroup folder, like in the watch column. So it does not seem to help me find the thread. |

When you find the reply you are interested in, look at the complete subject
and then search that. You can also flag the reply and it will be flagged in the newsgroup. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "WhatsUp31415" wrote in message ... Your search results should list any/all messages with "foobar" in the
subject, assuming the messages have been downloaded into OE. Tools | Options | Read | Get XXX headers at a time The default is 300. You may set this option as high as 1,000. Right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane | Synchronization Settings | select New Messages Only. Now every time you open the newsgroup (or hit F5), you will download the next-newest set of headers/messages.. When you feel you've downloaded enough headers/messages, again right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane and select Catch Up Now. This will Mark as Read all messages on the server, including ones you've not yet downloaded. Now return to "Get XXX headers at a time" and uncheck the option completely; then compact the folder. From now on, OE will only download headers/messages posted to the server since you last checked (polled) for messages. You should probably visit this page, too: http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#cleannews (lotsa good stuff there). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 WhatsUp31415 wrote: I use Find to search for a newsgroup thread with "foobar" in the subject line. Do you have a Flag column in the folder message list?
Setting the flag for a message in Find sets the flag in the message list. Clicking on the Flag header, sorts the messages by the Flag column. It may be better to add Watch / Ignore to the Find results columns. -- Ron Sommer "WhatsUp31415" wrote in message ... I use Find to search for a newsgroup thread with "foobar" in the subject line. Is there some trick to seeing the flag in the pane that displays all the messages in the newsgroups (not the Find results pane)? Aha! By default, the Flag column is not displayed. I discovered I can add the Flag column by right-clicking on the title line of the message pane. Moreover, if the flag is set on a response, it does not appear unless the thread (grouped messages) is expanded. Since I don't know what thread to expand a priori (klunk!), I need to set "Automatically expand grouped messages" under Tools Options Read, not my normal mode of operation. Thanks for helping me to see the errors in my ways. ----- original message ----- "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Add Watch/Ignore to Find as Ron suggested.
