Hope this solution is simple.

I am using Excel 2000. I have created a graph with numbers
on both the X and Y axis. I have gridlines on both X and Y
axis displayed.

I want to create a standard line graph with the X axis
category name directly under the gridlines. I can only
seem to get them between the X axis gridlines.

I have tried to manipulate the minor gridlines and major
gridlines. If I have only major gridlines selected then
the numbers are between the gridlines. If I select only
minor gridlines, then the numbers are beneath the
gridlines (as I want) but the major gridlines are present
as well. ie I can't make the minor gridlines appear
without the major gridlines with them.

The Y axis is perfect.

Instead of a line chart, create an XY (Scatter) chart, and display the
major gridlines. The labels should align with the gridlines.

I agree with Debra, that's the first plan of attack. As another =

alternative, you might use a dummy series with error bars to simulate =

gridlines in the proper places. See =

Jen:
Use the scatter chart with lines and markers.
