Default Sound question with powerpoint

Sorry, I confused what you wanted to do, with what I thought you
were saying the program
was already doing.
Try this:
1. from the "Insert" menu , "sound file", then select your sound file which
should already be in the same folder as the PPT file. A box will appear asking for starting
and stopping times. Stop "after slide," start "from previous" click OK. Another box will ask if you want
it to play automatically. ANSWER NO. A speaker icon will appear in the center of the slide. Put it
in the upper left hand corner or somewhere convenient.
2. click on the speaker icon, in the custom animation task pane select "Sound actions" then PAUSE,
start "with previous." Move that action to the top of the list.
3. Repeat step 2, so that you get a duplicate PAUSE action, except instead of moving it to the top of the list
click on the arrow to the right of PAUSE, under "Effect timing" click on the trigger button and select the name
of your sound file.
Then you're done. When the slide starts, the sound starts. Click the speaker icon and the sound stops.
Click it again and the sound starts from where it left off. repeat as needed. Page UP takes the sound back to
the start of the file.
One thing I'm not sure on - do you have automatic slide timings (advance)?
This wouldn't stop the slide from advancing in that case.

OK, that works, now I just need to be able to create a button that will do
the same. (The little speaker icon (though informative) is pretty ugly.. )

The other thing is that it STILL doesn't do exactly what I wanted...

Play the sound automatically with the ability to pause the sound and resume
(yes it does that)
But, when the sound file finishes it requires the user to click to
continue...

Unfortunately, while this method allows you to pause the sound, it requires
you to click on each slide to advance. The idea of this thing is that it
should be autorunning, but pausable.

Oh how I love Director so much more...
