Default Creating hyperlinks

On previous occasions when I have wanted to create a hyperlink in an email
no problem has arisen.
I simply highlight the text to use, press the hyperlink button and type in
the appropiate URL in the box which appears.
Until now this has worked perfectly but today, after I created a hyperlink
and tried testing it in the preview tab before despatch, suddenly the
program locks up and I have to Cntrl/Alt/Delete to back out.
This happened repeatedly, using different URLs, and YES I have checked them
carefully for typos each time!
Can anyone suggest what the problem could be please? (One thought I had is
maybe some of the recent patches coming in thick and fast from Microsoft
have altered my settings in some way.)
Any clues anybody?

I tried it in OE (with the latest patches) and didn't have a problem. Are
you having any IE problems? Have you checked for spyware?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Thanks to those who offered advice on this problem. Hyperlinks are now
working again!
Can't explain why the program appears to have auto-corrected but am just
pleased to have it going properly again!
