Default Unable to get new messages

I had Outlook Express 6 ready installed on my IBM R50e laptop.
First I had trouble getting mail at all (the password box kept coming up)
now I can send emails but I cannot receive them - it comes up "No new
messages" even when I know there are messages.
I can still receive them on my old pc using the same settings and passwords.
What is wrong? Can you help me?
Thank you!

What's wrong is that you're asking in the wrong newsgroup.

You're the one who wasted your time because people most familiar with
Outlook Express do not read this newsgroup. They read the one I cited. Do
you ask your auto mechanic how to handle your toothache?
