Default How do I hide the formatting symbols?

I was getting paragraph symbols and a dot for every space. I got rid of the
paragraph symbols, but the dots are still here. What do I do?

I suddenly have all of these symbols everywhere in my document. I'm assuming
that they're formatting symbols. How do I hide them? They're too distracting.

It helps to know which version to save us having the write down several
procedures covering each version.

Presuming you have Word 2007, go to Word Options, Display tab and clear
everything under Always Show These Formatting Marks on Screen.
