Different issue with "not all attachments can be rendered"
Ok, so I've read the articles in this group about the issues with the "not
all attachments can be rendered" problem with sending faxes from outlook with images in them, but I've got a new twist on it. I realize from reading these articles that the problem most likely lies with file associations and specifically the "printto" verb. However my situation is a bit different. My specific environment involves the shared fax service running on an SBS 2003 server, a Citrix/Terminal Services Server running Windows 2003 and Outlook 2003. I've actually narrowed down the problem in my situation to not one specific to the file associations, but rather one of a permissions issue related to file associations somehow. The proper printto verbs are setup, and everything works fine if I log into the system with a user with administrative rights. However if I log in as the same exact user, except with the administrator rights removed, then I get the dreaded "not all attachments can be rendered". Any suggestions on where to go from here? Thanks, Jonathan -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com |

I bet you're toast.
Microsoft's Fax Services have always had issues with permissions with any logon rights other than administrator. I remember wasting a lot of time with this with the developers when we were using Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Personal Fax and almost getting the issue solved by resetting the printing privileges for Power Users. We never did get it quite solved and the developers gave up. Similar situations arise with Windows XP Fax and we can't even begin to solve them because privileges for the Fax Service aren't even exposed any longer. I know nothing about SBS Server or its Fax client, but see if you can gain access to any of the privileges for the Fax Service and tweak them. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Jonathan Haase via OfficeKB.com" wrote in message ... You know it just figures that after working on this for a three or four
days and searching through everything I could find, that I'd get my problem fixed within an hour after posting a message here for help... My specific problem turned out to be permissions on the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] /Software/Classes/ keys specific for JPG's and other image files... Some how along the line the "global" file associations for most image type files got set to "Microsoft Office Picture", which in and of it self didn't cause any real issues as it did have a printto verb defined. However apparently when the subkeys for "OISJpeg file", etc were created they somehow got the permissions set to not allow propogation from the parent and set to be owned by one specific user. Once I finally got to that point I changed the permissions back to allow the propogation from the parent and now I can send jpegs, and other images in faxes from Outlook 2003 just fine. The one weird thing that I still don't quite understand though is that until I changes the permissions the faxing jpegs from Outlook didn't even work for the one user who had the ownership on the subkeys, with full access permissions to them. Weird overall.. Anyway, my problems seems to be solved now. Jonathan -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com |

You were lucky that the permissions had to do with the graphic file type
rather than Fax. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Jonathan Haase via OfficeKB.com" wrote in message ...
