format confusion?
hello,
in w2k I used imaging to have a look and to edit fax. Now in winxp-pro everything is different. Why there are two different software not compatible: 'Office Document Imaging' and (in german) 'Windows Bild- und Faxanzeige'. - The documents can be opend in both the software, but there must be a difference? - Is there a possibility to put all that together? like it has been with the old Imaging software? horst |

Windows XP made no such change. Office 2003 did. Is that what you're using?
What are you trying to achieve that you can't? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "horst siegert" wrote in message ... hello, in w2k I used imaging to have a look and to edit fax. Russ,
In combination xp plus 2003. The old Imaging was able to do 'everything'. Showing me one or multiple page documents (fax) as well as pictures, was able to save as tif, tiff (one or multipage) as jepeg as well. I could edit the pages and so on . Document Imaging is not able to open these 'old' edited documents, 'Windows Bild- und Faxanzeige' (don't know the english expresseion for that software), is able to do, but in a not sufficient manner, and if you press Strg + e the editet *.tif (fax) document will be opend in 'Doument Imaging' but all the changes done will be disapeared. horst |

Can't reproduce your problem. MODI works fine here.
What do you mean by "old 'edited' documents?" -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "horst siegert" wrote in message ... Russ, In combination xp plus 2003. The old Imaging was able to do 'everything'. Russ
What do you mean by "old 'edited' documents?" The documents I have editet in Imaging: inserted textboxes and markers, pictures and so on. You can open these documents in 'MODI' (I love all these abreviations ;-) ) but you will not see all the objects inserted. So, these old files are not compatible to MODI (even the GUI of MODI looks like Imaging). And that is my problem. How can I go on with my old files in the same way I did before. horst p.s.: There has been nearly the same problem earlier when there has been a change from the very old 'WangImage' and it's *.awd format to Imaging. p.p.s.: May be, my english is a litlle bit too 'simple' to be understandable ;-) |

Your English is fine. You just hadn't provided enough detail for me to
figure out what problem you were having. Now that I do, I must say I've never seen it before, nor have I run into anyone with a similar problem. I'm not sure I've ever run into anyone who has tried this either. Let me make sure I understand. You had some TIF files that you edited in Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer. Then you installed Office 2003, which changed the file association for TIF files to MODI. Now when you open these files in MODI, the changes you made are no longer seen. Is that correct? What happens if you open these files in the Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "horst siegert" wrote in message ... Russ What do you mean by "old 'edited' documents?" Russ, I think he was using Kodak Imaging under Windows 2000 and I don't know
how a .tif edited with the old Kodak application would behave under MODI. I still have Kodak Imaging on my old laptop (inherited from Windows 2000 when I updated it to XP Pro), I'll see how an image edited with Imaging behaves under MODI. It wouldn't surprise me if there were problems in light of the age difference. It wouldn't surprise me either. It does seem however that the Windows 2000
viewer would still be around and could be used to view these TIF files. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Hal Hostetler [MVP-S/U]" wrote in message ... Exactly, Hal is right. And I to was surprised to learn, that MODI (even if it looks like Imaging) is able to open these *.tif files but what you see ist just the 'virgin' original and all the edited objects are vanished. Hal, you may try it. Take a tif file in imaging, put some text boxes in it, deliver it to your xp system and open it in MODI. In the xp-picture and fax viewer you can see and edit these changings you made in Imaging, but that viewer is not really an alternative. And on top, Imaging was able to handle with *.jpg files. I know, that there is a way to run Imaging under winXP, but first I try to solve that problem without tricks. horst p.s.: seems to bee an intresting discussion ;-) |

So you created these files in Windows 2000 Kodak Imaging, but now you are
using Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer? Why do you keep leaving out details? Can still see the edits you made? Why is using Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer not an alternative? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "news.microsoft.com" wrote in message ...
