Please can you confirm if my understanding is correct?
Once i've setup POP for my hotmail account, my bulk folder will not be
downloaded, only the Inbox?

Thank you.

That is correct. POP3 is an older protocol, which does not synchronize local
folders with server folders. Rather, it downloads messages from the server
Inbox. And MSOE does not default to the "Leave messages on the server"; you
have to consciously select that option, or the email messages will be
deleted from the server.

Is the Junk Mail folder a local folder? I dont quite understand. I access
my Junk Mail folder alot from OE but now that I've configure Hotmail for
POP3, I cannot see my Junk Mail folder anymore. Do I now have to goto the
webpage and look at Junk Mail folder there to see if there's mail I've
missed?

Correct. The Hotmail-specific folders in OE that you're used to
(illustration:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...403shu01_C.gif)
will not be available when accessing the account via POP3 and/or after 01
September (if your WebDAV-based account is still running in OE).

The POP3 protocol does not "understand" the concept of folders. It only
understands, "mailbox", as a simple repository of unread email on the
server. Furthermore, MS Outlook Express, when accessing a POP3 server, also
doesn't "understand" the concept of folders. It only know the generic,
global "Inbox" under the "Local Folders" tree. All email downloaded from all
POP3 accounts (you can have more than one) are dumped in this same, common
folder.

I access my Junk Mail folder alot from OE but now that I've configure
Hotmail for POP3, I cannot see my Junk Mail folder anymore.

If you migrated properly, you shouldn't even see the "Hotmail" folder tree
in your 'Folders' pane. MSOE does not know about anything like a "Junk"
folder; unless you have a third party add-on which created it.

Do I now have to goto the webpage and look at Junk Mail folder there to see
if there's mail I've missed?

Unless you want to download Windows Live Mail, then, yes, you will need to
check the web view to check the Junk folder.

I really need to see my Junk Mail folder just in case there's an email I
need.

What would you suggest?

Thank you

Download Windows Live Mail and use http access.
Or check the Bulk folder online and move messages to the online Inbox.

From time to time, you'll need to log-on to your account at
http://mail.live.com to check the Junk Mail folder. If it contains a
message you want/need in OE, move it from the Junk Mail folder to the Inbox
folder on the webmail page. OE will then download the message the next time
it polls the server.

You're welcome.
