That can't be true. I'm looking at this from a pure simple user viewpoint. I
don't know how it all works. Right now I don't have any assurance what to expect when MS finally kills/switches off its servers one day down the road, with presumably the usual weblinks to get here well and truly dead. |

So, get newsreader software and don't access Usenet by Web links. Or, if you insist on a Web interface, use Google Groups -- but be aware that a significant number of people have their software set to ignore anything from Google Groups because the signal-to-noise ratio is so effing low. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://OakRoadSystems.com Shikata ga nai... |

The Day After ???
June 2, 8.00 am and everything running normal.
What's happening ? Does anyone know ?? I read and post to the MS news groups via msnews.microsoft.com. When I logged into Thunderbird and clicked the expand ('+' button) to retrieve new headers, I had several "news group does not exist do you want to unsubscribe" messages. They are definitely removing groups from *their* server. This Excel group seems to be carried by news.eternal-september.org, so I will just continue from there. -- I am glad my Mom named me Aaron, that is what everyone calls me. |

So, how do you use it? I signed up at http://www.eternal-september.org/ (formerly motzarella.org) and followed their instructions. It is free (as in no charge) but worth it. I switched when Verizon dropped all usenet groups that were not in the Big 8, or their own. -- I am glad my Mom named me Aaron, that is what everyone calls me. |

OK Dave, I did that.
When I click on newsgroups and put in excel I get "no matches" Help an old man figure it out. -- Don Guillett Microsoft MVP Excel SalesAid Software "Dave Peterson" wrote in message ... It looks like you're using Windows Live Mail.
I set it up in Outlook Express. I added the server and set my access rules (id and password). Then I was prompted to see if I wanted to download the list of newsgroups. IIRC, I got a small list of newsgroups when I tried to set up the newsserver without an id/password. I'm betting that happened to you. If you refresh the list, then search for excel, I bet you'll be ok. Don Guillett wrote: OK Dave, I did that.
