Default Create New Document from Template

In Word 2003, I want to add a button to the toolbar to create a new document
based on a custom template, and I understand I'll need a macro first to
assign to the button. So I tried to use the macro recorder for this simple
task, but when I run the macro, it just opens the "File, New" dialog box.
Any ideas on what I am missing here? Thanks,

When you recorded the macro, did you actually create the new document?

There are a number of ways to get new documents from templates. Most require
vba but not all. You may want to take a look at
