Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
Happy Monday, Ken!
Printed out your wonderfully detailed instructions and found that quite a few entries had mapi errors. Made the modifications without difficulty using OutlookSpy. Didn't work. Went back in and took another peek at the Hierarchy Table and found still one more mapi error in the rowID, so only deleted that entry. Still no reminders. Each time I started Outlook with the /reset folders switch. The only thing I can think of is to completely delete the calendar and re-create it. Seems a bit drastic, but the only other option I see is to completely erase Office and reinstall. P.S. Hubby's Outlook works fine. Would it be worthwhile to look at his computer and compare some of the entries to those on mine? Can't tell you how much I appreciate your help with this. It really is a problem for me as I've grown to depend on my computer. "Ken Slovak - [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: Open Outlook and select your PST file. Click the IMsgStore button in the OutlookSpy toolbar. In that dialog click the Open Root Container button at the top left. Select the GetHierarchyTable tab and in the list at the left you should see a folder labeled Reminders. Select that folder and either double-click on it to open it or click the OpenEntry button. See if there's a tab in the dialog labeled GetSearchCriteria, if so select it. You should see 4 folders listed at the left of the tab: Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks. Select the GetContentsTable tab and see if your reminder items are listed there. If you don't have your items listed or there is more than 1 folder labeled as Reminders (might be Reminders1 and so on) or the 4 folders weren't listed in the search criteria tab then something is not working correctly with the Reminders folder. Close all the OutlookSpy dialogs and if you saw anything wrong there select IMsgStore again and open the Root Folder again. Select the Reminders folder in the GetHierarchyTable tab and click the Delete button. If you have other RemindersXX folders select them and also click Delete until all are removed. Then close the dialogs and exit Outlook and in the Start, Run dialog type: outlook.exe /resetfolders Then press Enter. See if that helps. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm "Jes" wrote in message ... Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
I would first of all make sure Outlook is closed and run Scanpst.exe against
your PST file. You can find it using Windows Explorer. Run it until it finds no errors in that file. Then after that try using the /resetfolders and /cleanreminders command switches when starting Outlook. Open the Start, Run dialog and in it type: outlook.exe /resetfolders /cleanreminders Make sure the spaces are there before the switches. Then press Enter. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm "Jes" wrote in message ... Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
Ken, I appreciate you holding my hand through this. It has been quite a
struggle. Despite Scanpst.exe reporting no errors, the reminders are now working. It's my belief that the previous procedures also corrected other errors that weren't *yet* resulting in obvious operational problems. Again, thank you for all your assistance in resolving this problem. "Ken Slovak - [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: I would first of all make sure Outlook is closed and run Scanpst.exe against your PST file. Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
Hi Ken...
It asking me what pst program I want to scan and having a hard time finding it. You said: the next steps usually are to run Scanpst.exe (Inbox repair tool) and if that doesn't help then to create a new profile. "Ken Slovak - [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: Creating a new profile is a fix for many things, not just this. If /cleanreminders doesn't work and /resetfolders doesn't work the next steps usually are to run Scanpst.exe (Inbox repair tool) and if that doesn't help then to create a new profile. If I was using any badly written software that corrupted things regularly I'd uninstall it and use something else. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm "BarleySystems" wrote in message ... Based on your response below I am assuming that the only solution, when PDA software corrupts your reminders folder and /cleanreminders does not work, is to create a new profile? I did that and it worked. Thanks It is a shame that my PDA has caused me to have to create a new profile and import all of my PST files, but at least now it works. Thanks again |

Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
Set the Navigation Pane to display the Folder List. Right-click on the
Personal Folders (Outlook Today) folder there. Select Properties, then the Advanced button. The path to your PST file is listed there. You can enter that textbox and scroll it to see the entire path and file name. Only run ScanPST when Outlook is not running. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm "mnsportsfan" wrote in message ... Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on
Ken,
Thanks for being so helpful to everyone! I tried your suggested technique, but it didn't help. Do I need to shut down the computer or Outlook after doing that, before it works? Outlook should be shut down before running the command to start it in the
Start, Run dialog of course. Other than that you shouldn't have to do anything. If that doesn't work then I'd suggest in order: 1. Close Outlook and find ScanPST.exe using Windows Explorer. You might have to show hidden and system files and folders to see it. Make sure you know the location of your PST file so you can point ScanPST to it. Run ScanPST 3 times or until it doesn't find any errors. After that start Outlook again using the same /resetfolders and /cleanreminders switches. 2. If that doesn't work close Outlook. Then create a new profile. Do not copy the existing one. Point the new profile at your existing PST file as the data source. Use the Mail applet in the Control Panel to add a new profile. You will need the settings for your email accounts. 3. If that doesn't work set Outlook to use a new PST file instead of the existing one. If reminders work there then open the existing PST in Outlook and copy everything from that to the new one. Do not import. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm "Envcat" wrote in message ...
