Default Not able to select new contact or distribution list when mailing

I have recently shifted my outlook 2003 to a new computer and have recently
added a new contact name and made a new distribution list. When I have gone
to send mail, I am unable to find the distribution list or the new contact.
When I actually come out of 'mail' and go into 'contacts' they are in there!
Any advice on this one?

Clarify where it is that you can't find these Contacts. If you are referring
to the Outlook Address Book view, then make sure you have configured that
view correctly to display the folder in which you've created these Contacts.
Instructions are in the Help files and KB:

Hi Russ,

I can see all of my contacts (including the two new ones) when I go into the
'contacts' tab. However, when I open up my mail folder and start a new email
message, when I press the To: the list I get of my contacts (in alphabetical
order by first name) has the two new contacts missing. When I followed the
instructions you supplied regarding installing the outlook address book
service, the address book is already there and I was unable to follow the
'mark your contact folder for use with your address book' instructions as I
was unable to find the 'outlook address book tab' under
file-folder-properties. Is this instruction for 2007 rather than 2003?

Instructions apply to all versions.
I can only guess from what little information you've posted so far. Since
you said you just migrated your data to a new installation, I suspect you've
ended up with more than one Contacts Folder from a flawed migration and are
now adding new Contacts to a folder that is not displayed in your address
book view. To find out, use Folder List view and expand all trees to see if
you have more than one Contacts Folder in this profile.
