Outlook 2007 address books unavailable
Something is inconsistent. If the Outlook Address Book Service exists in
your profile, then you will be able select "Show as email address book" in the Properties of your Contacts Folders, unless you somehow managed to corrupt this profile as well. The problem: In Outlook 2007 'Contacts' view all my contacts are there and are editable and synch with my Nokia phone. In 'Mail' view, if I click on the address book icon in the top toolbar, the address book window opens. However, there is nothing in the small window under the 'address book' heading. If I search for a contact, a window opens with the message "Search cannot be completed. You must have an address list to search in. If you don't have an address list, please contact your Microsoft Exchange Administrator" If go to 'ContactPropertiesOutlook Address Book, the name 'Contacts' appears in the small window under 'Name of Address Book' but it is greyed out. So is the 'Show This Folder as an E-mail Address Book' check box, which is empty. Steps taken to fix the problem: Closed Outlook 2007 programme. Opened 'Control PanelMailProfilesShow Profiles - Only profile shown is Outlook Added Outlook 2007 (new profile name) Followed the process to set up e-mail account for this profiile and then checked the 'Always use this Profile' option and selected Outlook 2007 as the profile to be used. You haven't created a new profile correctly. You are simply modifying your
old, corrupt profile. A new profile will only contain one PST file-- a new, empty file that will be the default. If you want to use a previous file, you must let Outlook create its new file, then open your old file in Outlook and set it as the default. Can someone please start these instructions from scratch.
I have read through all of this and read through the MS support materials on this, and I still don't have an address book. I still get the "show this folder as an email address book" greyed out despite having done everythign I think I have been told to do. If someone has succeeded could they please write idiot proof step by step instructions and take nothing for granted.
