Default getting max value of unique dates in a range

I have a 2 ranges both with 16 rows. 1 column has dates with 4 dates being
repeated 4 times, which make up the 16 rows. The other colum has values that
correspond to each of the dates.
I need a formula to scroll through the dates and get the max value from the
value column of all LIKE dates.....

Is this possible

ibeetb,

One word: PivotTable. Okay, it's really two words, smushed into one, but the end result is the same.

Select your data, the choose Data | PivotTable....

In the Wizard (XL97) or from the commandbar (XL2000 up), drag the date button to the row field, then the values button to the data
field, and change the default field setting from SUM oto MAXIMUM.

And you're done....
