Default Activation after hard drive crash

About a year ago I replaced my Dell PC with a new one and uninstalled Office
XP and reinstalled it on my new Dell PC. Last week my hard drive crashed and
Dell replaced my the drive on my PC. After reinstalling Office XP I tried to
activate by phone and the represenatative said I could not activate it again
because it would be the third time. I paid for the software and now can not
run it. I obviously could not get the representative to understand I only
have one computer and the only reason I am trying to activate it again is
because the hard drive had died. Do I really have to buy new software even
though I have paid for it but MS won't let me activate it because of Dell
hardware problems?
