Default Unable to find registry key

My computer crashed. I bought a new one and am trying to install my old
version of Office Home and Student 2007. Before doing so I tried to uninstall
the trial version that I had been using. It would not uninstall so I tried
the Microsoft manual uninstall. I then tried to install the purchased version
but the computer, that is running Vista-64, will not accept the product key
that is on the original packaging. I've also tried installing Office Student
and Teacher 2003 but I get a message saying that the installer could not find
the registry key on the original CD. Is my registry messed up or what? How
can I fix these problems?

If you have any data on this PC save it to an external source.
Recover your PC to factory condition.
Allow win to update, then check PC is functioning correctly.
Uninstall any Office Trial together with the activation assistant, reboot.
If the removal dialogue fails to uninstall the trial then see;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us
After following double check that the trial has been removed.
Then insert your office 2007 cd and install.
If there is any error msg on this installation, post back
Double check the product key, eg O or 0, B or 8 etc
