Default Opening with a lower version of publisher

I create a lot of Publisher documents and give them to
other people in my company. I am running Publisher 2002,
and a lot of them are still running 2000 and cannot open
my document.

Two questions--one, do I have to save it as a lower
version in order for them to open it?

or...

is there an update to publisher that they can download in
order to view the 2002 documents?

File Save As... Files of Type Publisher 2000. A lot of quality is
lost.

No.

You might thinking about using PDF as an alternative if the files don't
require editing.

Yes, you must go to File Save As File Type and change to Publisher 2000
for the save as file type before sending. No other options besides having
them upgrade.
