Default Calendar items will not archive

This is a pretty long one, but I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

I have a user that is unable to archive her calendar. She's using Outlook
2002 and her mailbox is located on an Exchange 2003 Platform. Her mailbox
limit is 20MB, however the calendar exceeded her storage space at 28MB. She
called our helpdesk and requested assistance. The L1 support team walked her
through the archive procedures. Outlook appeared to archive the folder for
an instant and then went away with no change in size to the mailbox.

We ran the /cleanfreebusy swith in the hopes that the client wasn't synching
to the server, however that made no difference. A ticket was sent to our
Exchange team, with the return that there were no apparent problems on the
Exchange server or with the files in her box and that it must be a client
issue. The client PC has been reloaded three times and the user is still
unable to archive the calendar.

We can't delete the calendar items because our Corporate Digital Information
Retention Policies prevent us from doing so. The Exchange Administrators are
adamant about not increasing the mailbox size to free up the space to see if
the files will then archive.

Any ideas?

Check the Modified date on the items that aren't being archived as you think
they should. That's the date Outlook uses to determine whether or not an
item is ready to be archived, and a simple action such as moving the item to
another folder can change the Modified date. More information and a list of
actions that change the Modified date can be found he

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;295657

Also, in the case of a recurring appointment or event, none of the
occurrences will archive until the end of the recurrence period has passed.
Therefore, recurring items with no end date will never archive.
