Can I fax using outlook 2000 through my dsl connection??

I have an adsl conection and would like to be able to send
and receive faxes through it, using outlook 2000.
I have never done this before and was told that adsl
connections are not compatible with conventional fax
software?

Any ideas or suggestions?
