Headers on the left side
Hi,
I have a document, about 10 pages long where the 'header' for each section runs down the left side of the page. Think of the first inch, a double line running down it. To the left of the double line is the heading (such as 'DATE', 'NAMES', etc) and on the right of the line is the actual information. Does anyone have an idea on an easy way to do it? When I start formatting and editing the line begins disappearing, margins get changed and the paragraphs don't match up. Thanks, Adam Steiner |

You'll need to anchor a text box or frame to the document header. If this
appears on every page, you'll find that the formatting in the document body is more predictable if you leave a wide left margin to allow for the header. -- Suzanne S. Headers on the left side
Don't really understand your description: is the problem in formatting the
header, or that header interferes with the body of the document? Anyway, some techiques that might help: 1. Use textboxes attached to the header. These can float anywhere on the page. You're not restricted to the header area. 2. Put a table into the header, with the double line as the cell border. "Adam Steiner" wrote in message s.com... Put a table into the header, with the double line as the cell border. The header isn't used. I was using the word header to give the picture. Basically, it is a document, where, lining down the left side, is a 'heading' of what each parapgraph denotes. Something like this: PARAGRAPH 1 TITLE || PARAGRAPH 1 DATA || PARAGRAPH 1 DATA CONT. PARAGRAPH 2 TITLE || PARAGRAPH 2 DATA When I edit the parapgraph data (ie P1) it affects the title of P2. I want to be able to edit the data without affecting the next paragraph, title or data. Suzanne recommended using a frame or textbox to accomplish this, which I will give a shot. Thanks, Adam |

Okay, I think I misunderstood what you wanted. You want *headings*, I think,
rather than headers. In that case, you can either use a two-column table or put the heading in a frame in the margin. The advantage to a frame over a text box for this purpose is that you can include the frame formatting in a style, so that when you apply the style, the frame is inserted. -- Suzanne S. Hi Adam. What about creating a table with two columns and however many
rows you need? Format the table with no borders except for a vertical double-line border between the two columns. Type the paragraph titles in the left columns, and the paragraph data in the right columns. A table makes it easy to keep the corresponding paragraph title and data together, and you can easily readjust the width of the two columns as needed.
