Insert file graphic turns black
I have been using Powerpoint in Office 97 for a few years and have quite a few slides saved with JPEG graphics included.
I recently upgraded to Windows XP (Home Edition) and now all my graphics inside Powerpoint have turned black. When I try to insert new graphics, they also come in black. Any solutions? Thanks Joel |

Joel,
Sounds like you need to update your graphics card drivers for your PC. Thanks for the suggestion, however I am using the same graphic card, drivers and computer as before when everything worked. The only thing I changed was to upgrade to Windows XP. After I upgraded to Windows XP when I go into PowerPoint and try to insert a graphic (through Menu: Insert-Picture-From File) the graphic comes in totally black. If I cut the black graphic and Paste Special - picture, it comes out okay but I don't want to have to do that everytime. Plus I would have to go through all my old files and do the same.
The same problem is now occuring in Word and Excel as well. Thanks Joel |

Drivers are OS specific. If the video driver now in place is the one that
came with Windows XP then it's almost guaranteed to be out of date. Go to the website of the video card manufacturer and get the latest driver for Windows XP and install it. Let us know if that corrects the problem. As you can see, it's not a PowerPoint specific issue. -- Sonia, MS PowerPoint MVP Team Autorun CD software, templates, and tutorials http://www.soniacoleman.com/ "Joel" wrote in message ... Depending on what you upgraded to WinXP from, it's *very* unlikely that the drivers are the same. I'd definitely check with the video board manufacturer for updated XP drivers. -- Steve Rindsberg, PPT MVP PPT FAQ: www.pptfaq.com PPTools: www.pptools.com ================================================ Featured Presenter, PowerPoint Live 2004 October 10-13, San Diego, CA www.PowerPointLive.com ================================================ |

Thanks all for your suggestions.
It does sound like a video driver problem. I'll proceed to investigate getting an updated driver and let you know how it came out. Joel |

Your suggestion was correct. I went to the web site of my graphics card manufacturer and downloaded the latest driver for Windows XP and after installing and rebooting, the problem was resolved.
Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. Regards, Joel |
