OE dmx files

I am having problems with my dmx files. I have just changed
from dialup to Dsl and I wanted to keep all of my emails from my
IMAP carrier and copied all the dmx files to a CD. Now I went
to setup my new accounts and OE asked to delete that other user
and I said yes, well I thought I did the right thing but now I can't
for the life of me how to get those dmx files back into the new
accounts. I should have done it like a import but it's too late for that.
What application can I use to read these dmx files? Is there any hope
of saving them? Any help with be greatly appreciated.

First, OE uses DBX, not dmx files. If you saved DMX files, you don't have
the OE messages on CD.

You may still have them on the hard drive, open Windows Explorer. Tools |
Folder Options | Views tab. Select "Show all files" and uncheck "Hide file
extensions.........." Press Apply then OK, now search for Inbox.dbx. Note
the location of the DBX files. In OE, click on Tools | Otopns | Maintenance
tab, press the Store Folders button and note the location of the current
message stores (DBX files).
Compare this location to the location of the DBX files in Search. If they
are different, you can skip down to the File | Import below and import from
that folder. If the locatins are the same that may not be a good thing.
Let's just hope you saved DBX files and not DMX files.

Second, create a temp folder such as C:\Mail
Now copy all the DBX files from the CD to the C:\Mail folder
Open the C:\Mail folder.
Press CTRL A then right click on the highlighted files and select
Properties.
Now, uncheck the Read Only check box if it is checked.
Press OK

Now, from OE click on File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express |
Import mail from an OE6 store folder.
Press BROWSE button then navigate to the C:\Mail folder
Select it then press OK

Now finish up the import of the old email messages.

Ok, I just want to make certain what I am doing. When I go to search for the
dbx files should I go to the CD that they are on. Or do I have to load them
from that onto another folder? Please be kind I am not great at this. Thank

Ok, I have done the search and to the part that I compare the file locations.
The one showing is the new ones. But I had copied 3 folders off the CD
earlier and put them in that file and they are showing in the search but a
different folder name. I hope that makes sense. So if I copy all of those
to that folder shouldn't I be able to retreive them now?

email programs to import from. My folder is not showing.

Ok, I did that. It went through loading a pot full. But now I don't see the
folders or files. Is there something else I need to do?
