Here's a thought. Go into Tools | Options | Maintenace tab | Store
Folders
button. What location dos it show for there? On XP, one of the first

things
I do for my own messages is to move it to a folder such as C:\Msgs or
C:\Mail and use it. Sure makes life a lot easier.

Majik......missed this somehow. So you move all your email messages to
your
C Drive?? Out of OE?? Might just do that.

Hoping that we can find something with this HP program coz it is the only
thing I downloaded before all h*ll broke loose. Grasping at straws
really,
but am going to get that 2nd HD and put XP on (or the tech will do both
for
me)....then maybe concentrate on sorting out ME once I get all the data
from
it.

XX Heather

I don't have duplicates of everything......but I also have the added
confusion of a lot of XP folders on this HD which I am not entirely
sure

I
can remove. I know.....a reformat is in order, but you know how Martha
would feel at the word *reformat*.....grin.

Well, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Say, I have an idea. Move

on down here to the Bluegrass and I'll come and pick it up and fix it G

Default OE Wiped Clean......???

Hi Guys......

I don't know what on earth happened. Opened up tonight and had NOTHING in
my OE program.

After doing a search for *dbx files, I found them supposedly in the Applog
folder.....however, no subfolders. I finally dragged a *hidden* folder
called Application Data over to C:\Windows\Application Data and those
imported OK.....

BUT.....I can't bring in my 300 name Address Book!!!! I have tried
everything I can think of. It says it has imported successfully and it
hasn't. I don't have one name.

I copied it to My Documents and tried importing from there.....it brings in
an empty yellow folder with my Identity Name on it......no addresses. Yet
the size is right, so they should be there.

I do have a couple of Majik's backups......should I try one of those?

OH....and I lost my Quick Launch Toolbar. Says it can't create it. I had
it when I opened up, but was dragging OE over to the right.....obviously
this messed up something (maybe).

I did see that Application Data Hidden Folder in Applog before I shut down
earlier and kinda wondered what in heck it was.......so I must have
accidentally done something earlier.......

HELP!!

Cheers.......Heather (aka Figgs)

There should be a backup of the Address Book if you used OEBackup, rename
the old one and copy the backed up file there then open Address Book.

Hi Puss......

I just successfully imported it from one of your OE program
backups......needs a bit of weeding out, but thank goodness I got it back.
This one was from 4 weeks ago. Don't know why I did a Quick Backup at that
point.....but glad I did. That proggie of yours is a lifesaver!!!

Been reading the %*$# Help and I can't get the Quick Launch Toolbar
back......says it can't create one. Colour me ticked off!!

Don't know what on earth happened......but life is never dull.

Btw....the XP Upgrade was a total disaster (Feb)......and I was left with a
hybrid ME/XP......a lot of XP folders on the HD after I uninstalled XP. Got
most of them weeded out, thanks to Noel. Next time it will be put as a
clean install on a second HD!!!!!!!

Cheers, my favourite Hillbilly.....grin.

QuickLaunch is a folder I think.

Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer
Default User and the user's regular account.

See if they exist or not in there.

Should have FedEx'ed me the computer, I'd had it rebuilt in a couple of days
but then we got that border problem. Whished they go ahead and make Canada a
state. G

I looked at the OEBackup code the other day. First time in a while and
almost did something in it. I'm just stuck where I can't think and I get
frustrated and close it out. There's a lot of stuff in that program and some
no one can use because I disabled it. Maybe I'll get back to it shortly and
pretty it up some. Keep waking up with some ideas on how to accomplish a
couple of other things which would be helpful.

Found it......got a bit of a mess on here with two sets of Application Data.
QuickLaunch is where you said, minus the XP Documents & Settings, grin.
Don't mention XP to me at the moment!!! But I don't know how to get the
blasted thing back on the Taskbar......right clicking doesn't work. Says it
can't create QuickLaunch. Hmmm.

What border problem?? (G) We just can't ship beef or lumber to the
US.....and NEVER suggest to a true blue Canadian that we be made part of the
US of A.....them's fightin' words!! (VBG)

Figure I will get an 80 gig HD and the tech can put the blasted XP on....and
dual boot with WinME. $100 for the HD and $60 for the tech. Not
bad.....but having you do it for free would be lovely....chuckle. Hey, it's
snowing today....want to come up for a visit??

I hope you get back to it....I had a problem using it coz I still have that
old Identity on here.....so went to the Quickie one. Think I better get rid
of the corrupt identity......and I now have two sets of these folders and
files. I will ponder on it and remove some of them. But will do another
quickie backup as a just in case.

Thanks.......Heather

Create a shortcut to something in the Quick Launch folder (note the space
between the words).
The restart the computer. It should be able to appear then.

Dual boot is okay, you can still share OE's files that way.

It was cold enough for snow today here it felt like. Blasted wind.....

Yeah, a corrupt Identity can cause problems and not just with OEB. You
should have to see how many cow paths I have to drive down in code to make
sure I have all the possibilities there for the program to just begin to
run.......Regular set up Identity, No Identities subkey at all, an Identity
started but not finished (no subkeys), Identity partially started, (some
subkeys), and a host of others. Then onward with the other checks such as
which OS is running, where are the files located, what are all the
Identities and their paths. Do certain values exist?, etc.......Then the
program shows up on the screen eventually. I looked one time and there were
about 500 lines of code to do just the basic start up. I think the whole
program is over 100,000 lines and about 20 forms. Basically it's just
another way to kick one's self in the rear trying to go thru it.

Didn't work........so I created a new folder and went into Windows Explorer
and added the Quick Launch one......however, it is over to the right and I
can't yank it back to beside Start......my programs are opening between
Start and Quick Launch now.

Just removed a photo editing update from HP that I put on last night and did
a System Restore once more.....back another few hours. Probably that
program was at fault. Dunno......

I will have to have a good look at Windows Explorer tomorrow. I put the
Application Data folder in sort of the wrong place.......so have duplicates
under that. But I will see which Identity is being used for OE and delete
the others. (2 of my new identity.....2 of the old corrupt one). Just call
me "Murphy"......if anything could go wrong.....etc.

Night Majik.....heading off to bed. You get working on that OE Backup, OK??
(VBG)

Cheers.....Heather

Heather,
I am late to this discussion; however, I will offer this as part of the
address book discussion:
a.Your address book normally should appear at: X:\Documents and
Settings\Xxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book [replace the first "X"
with the drive letter on which Windows is installed. Replace "Xxxx" with the
proper user name].
b.You can find all address books on your computer by using the Start/Search
function. Open it up: All Files and Folders/type "*.wab" (minus the quote
markers)/look in the Hard Drive on which Windows is installed/More Advanced
Options, BE CERTAIN that the first three options contain check marks/left
click "Search".
