I run Windows XP and IE/OE 6 with all the latest updates installed.
For the past 3 days I have been unable to send email from Outlook
Express because I get the error message 553 (0x800CCC79). My ISP
says the problem isn't on their end and I need to remove Outlook
Express. I have stopped Norton Antivirus from running on emails and
I have tried turning off Norton Internet Security, with no success.
I have read the Microsoft article on how to remove IE 6 and I am
completely confused. The only thing it seems to talk about is
changing registries. Quite frankly, the process described in the
article seems well above my skill level (I've had my computer about 6
months). Has anyone had this problem before? And can anyone advise
me on a simplified method of removing and reinstalling Outlook
Express? Is this something a novice can do or do I need to call in a
specialist to fix my computer?

The only other thing I can think of is if chirpmail.net is not the ISP you
are connected to.

Thank you Frank . Unfortunately I get the same error message regardless
of the ISP.

If they were all on AOL it looks like chirpmail.net is blocking AOL. You
should ask them

This is the error message I receive:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected
by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '.
Subject 'Order', Account: 'mail.chirpmail.net (1)', Server:
'mail.chirpmail.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that
domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
There was one recipient. After I had trouble I tried several other
friends, one at a time and always got the same error message.

Thank you Bruce for trying to help but I had seen that page and
unfortunately can't seem to make it apply to my situation. I am emailing
from home to friends I have emailed before. I appreciate your effort on my
behalf.

I checked my sent mail box and discovered it had been more than a week since
I sent an email. During that week I installed additional RAM, and JASC
Paint Shop Pro. I also downloaded WinPatrol which I have since uninstalled
in case that was causing the problem. I have ongoing problems with Norton
having to do with their Live Update (I have to wait for a pop up from them
to download and install updates) but I do download and install their updates
at least once a week. I run Spybot, Adaware, CW Shredder, and Norton Anti
Virus on a weekly basis. I clean up my hard drive every week and defrag at
least monthly. I did a defrag on Friday. I don't know if any of this
shines anymore light on my situation and I apologize if I have given you
needless details.

OIC, you replied to the thread but changed the subject.

Don't do that. Your reply will appear as a new post and thread.
