Default Cannot check autofilter - Grey'd out

I am working on a large spread sheet, 450 rows x 26
columns, and I want to use the autofilter option to sort
items in the list however, the autofilter box is checked,
but grey'd out so I cannot access the option. This sheet
is part of 5 sheets in this database.

If I copy the sheet I am trying to autofilter into a new
spread sheet, the autofilter option is accessible.

What am I missing that it does not work in the
application. This was tax data from a previous year and
was compiled using the autofilter option when it was
created.

Thanks for your help

Your worksheet is protected. Use the Tools--Protection--Unprotect Sheet
command.

Hope you the password if it prompts you for one.

Default Cannot check autofilter - Grey'd out

Hi Robert,

Well, I went home last night and checked all the sheets in the book - none were protected. I still cannot access the autofilter function. There's got to be something that will clear the anomally - any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply Robert, but I also thought it might be protected until I went to the menu as you suggested, but the "unprotect" option is not available meaning it is not protected. I did not check each individual sheet in the book. If one sheet is protected would that prevent me from accessing the "autofilter" in another sheet of the book?

Thanks again,
