Slipstream O2K3 Pro SP3: Wrong Patch?
I've got an administrative install point for Office 2003 Professional on
my network, to which I have mapped drive letter Z:. I have installed a new copy of Windows XP Professional and installed Office through this install point. I go to Office Update and find that I need to download and install Service Pack 3. I want to add this to the install point, so I download the update, extract it to the desktop, CD to the new directory, and attempt to integrate it with the following command: msiexec /a z:\pro11.msi /p mainsp3.msp /log install.log This fails with an error message, which is contained in the log: ======begin install.log====== MSI (c) (F0:40) [11:47:25:165]: Final Patch Application Order: MSI (c) (F0:40) [11:47:25:165]: Other Patches: MSI (c) (F0:40) [11:47:25:165]: Unknown\Absent: {375F080F-88E9-4EA1-A177-C0F091546AC8} - C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU\mainsp3.msp The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Slipstream O2K3 Pro SP3: Wrong Patch?
Hi David,
For best results, I would apply the SP3 update directly onto the console of the machine where the admin share resides (if possible), move the extracted SP3 files to a simple local path like C:\OFF2003SP3\ and then use the following command: msiexec /a local path to admin share\pro11.msi /p C:\OFF2003SP3\mainsp3.msp SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /L*v C:\OFF2003SP3\install.log /qb+ If it still has problems, the verbose log generated will provide maximum detailed information. Hope this helps... Doug Jessen Microsoft Office Deployment "David Trimboli" wrote in message ...
