Default lost math symbols

I use Equations 3.0 with math symbols within a Visio
drawing. When I copy one equation into a Word document,
the math symbols transfer.
When I copy two or more equations or the entire Visio
drawing to Word, the math symbols disappear.
BUT, if I then double-click on the drawing now in Word, in
order to edit it, the math symbols are there.
They are "hidden" when simply viewing or printing the
drawing in Word.
What's that all about?
