Default Visio Icon Won't Appear

I have a drawing where a particular icon won't appear. It is a custom shape modified from another shape. I have a few co-workers that see it fine.

What happens is I can see it fine in the stencil, but when I drag it to the drawing all that shows is the green "select" box that shows something is there. There is nothing else in the drawing, and a "bring to front" hasn't made a difference. The icon exists in a couple of other drawings and it won't show up there either.

is it possibly a 'layer' thing, i.e. the icon goes to a layer that is not in
your drawing?
