Default MS Outlook making lost of noise? Achieving issue?

I have MS outlook 2003 and my computer makes lost of hard drive noise
when outlook is opened. My wife gets lots of emails, would achieving
help? We often use standby mode, but when I reboot the noise is not
as bad for a few days.

p.s. Where is my pst file? it's not under my personal folder where it
should be. I did a search my whole hard drive and I found old pst
files, before the backup. but can't find my new ones with the current
date. how is that possible. My setting in explorer is not to hide
any files.
