Can both office 2007 and office 2003 operate at the same time
I just want to use both office 2007 and office 2003 while I am getting use to
office 2007. Is it possible to run both on one computer? |

Is it possible? Yes. Is it a good idea? No. (And Microsoft recommends
against it.) You are asking for configuration problems now and in the future. Unless you are interested in dual-booting or a virtual environment - and honestly, why bother - the wisest course of action is to take advantage of the enormous amount of instructional material available on the web. The 'old fashioned' method - a book - also works well. Besides, everyone knows that living together is different than being married. Daddy "Deane" wrote in message ... Can both office 2007 and office 2003 operate at the same time
"Deane" wrote in message ... I just want to use both office 2007 and office 2003 while I am getting use to office 2007. Is it possible to run both on one computer? Yes, with one issue with Outlook, with a custom install allowing 2007 to not overwrite the 2003 version programs. Outlook can only be installed by one suite (I actually like 2007's better than 2003's version in most respects.) There is also an issue with Word re-registering itself and that issue is easily fixed by a registry edit. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928091/en-us about 1/2 way down page for Word fix. You need to do two registry edits, one for Office 2007 which is identified in the registry as Office 12 and an identical one in Office 11 which is Office 2003's registry ID. Now, Microsoft does not recommend the registry edit "You can bypass the auto-registration. This enables Word 2007 to start faster. However, we do not recommend this because Word may not function correctly if it cannot auto-register itself" but I have not had any issues with that edit in the years I have used the fix on Office 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and now 2010 beta. YMMV of course. |
