I'm totally lost in this thread, but if you had problems opening links in
e-mails using IE7, there are three possible fixes, and one of them should
work.

Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults |
Browser: IE /must/ be chosen here if you're running IE7 and want such links
to work.

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet
Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867

If still no joy:

From:
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet
Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

fine except this one.

You must have done something else then.

Since it is happening during the boot you could try changing your startup
options
or just temporarily disable them.

E.g. Run... (press Win-R) and enter: msconfig
then see what is listed and checked in the Startup tab.
In order to capture the ones which are used you can also Run...

msinfo32.exe /category SWEnvStartupPrograms

and use that tool's Edit commands.
Tip: sort by User Name before capturing.

Alternatively, when you boot hold down a Shift- key and that supposedly
stops stuff like that from being run.

My guess is that you could find oemig50.exe (or something related)
is being run but I have no idea why that might be there.
Again, I suspect you have done something else that you aren't telling us
or don't realize that you've done.

I was having a problem with an error saying that outlook express was removed
from this computer but since it looked like it was going to take a while to
solve I just ran my backup and everything works now.

I tried to use IE7 in hopes that it would fix the outlook express problem
but it didn't. But I also had another problem with it and that is why I
haven't use IE7 and still use 6. The links in my emails wouldn't open other
than that I would keep using IE7. I will try it again and with the fixes you
posted and see.

Thanks for your help

This is a new "feechur" of IE7. Many of our simple repairs such as that
regsvr32 command don't work any more and some that still execute apparently
are better left undone (e.g. shdocvw.dll). The designed feature is the Reset...
button (aka RIES, ref. KB923737)

BTW if you would try it except for passwords, etc. you could
also use PSPV (from NirSoft) to export those first.

I'm not completely sure yet but I think a new simpler repair for this symptom
under IE7 will be:

regsvr32 /n /i ieframe.dll

However, since you have already uninstalled IE7 my guess would be
that reinstalling it again, being careful to avoid third-party interference,
would avoid the symptom too.

Good luck
