Default Heading 1, Char 1 style

I am creating templates in Word XP and using text from other Word documents.
When I copy text that has Heading 1 style from one document and paste it
into the template, the style changes to Heading 1, Char or sometimes Heading
1, Char, Char 1. This sometimes happens for heading 2 and heading 3 as
well. I have looked at the original text and cannot find anything strange
about it. Any explanations?

TIA,

Ricki
