Default histogram

I have a column (b) with return codes and column (c) with description of the
code. I have listed 150 invoices with the code and description. I want to
create a histogram of how many frequencies for code 1, code 2, etc. but when
I highlight the description, I get an error message that says "nonnumeric
information". What do I do to make it count. (my bin (x axis) will be
codes).
Thank you so much for your help.
