Default Outlook 2007 not opening due to error message

I just tried to start using Outlook 2007 when....

Each time I launch Outlook 2007, I get "An extension failed to initialize.
Can't open extend.dat. The file may not exist, you may not have permission
to open it ..." I am not able to use Outlook as a result of this. I am not
sure how to proceed.

Please advise step by procedure to fix this problem.

I have tried to remove Outlook from my computer and reload but this did not
solve the problem.

I download Outlooktools 2 but that did not seem to help either.

Outlook wont let me get to that point as a series of error messages pop up
after the initial message.

Did you try a new mail profile? Did you try deleting the existing
extend.dat and allow Outlook to create a new one?

I tried a new profile and deleting the existing extend, dat but neither seemed
to work. I still get the error message.

Any other suggestions?
