Default printing columns in sub report

I have a report and the main report covers the entire width of the page. I
have a small sub report located at the bottom of the page and I am trying to
get it to print in 3 columns. I have the sub report page setup so that it
prints in 3 columns and it works correctly when opened by itself. When it is
in the bottom of the main report it comes up as one column?

Any ideas on how to fix it or work around it?

A Report embedded in a Subreport will work nicely in Columns, if you set the
sequence to Across-then-Down. But, if you set it to Down-Then-Across, it
will not format correctly (at least the vast majority of the time... there
may be one count of rows that would work OK, depending on the space
available, but I've never encountered it).
