2 spot colors only
I need to convert my Publisher 2002 document to spot
color, maintaining black for all black text (in text boxes as well as in imported picture files - Excel charts and other TIFFs) and changing all other colors to variations/tones of a single spot color (PMS 349 - a green). According to the help file, I want to choose two spot colors - black first and a green second. I see how to modify/delete other spot colors, but although I specify only these two spot colors in the dialog box, the box below (stating which colors are used in my document) has 3 colors. According to the help file, having 3 colors means that ONLY the colors in my doc matching exactly the second color will be that color and all others will be shades of gray, which is happening. How do I restrict there being only 2 spot colors (Black and a green)? Below is the Help information copied so you can see what I'm referring to: From Publisher 2002 Help ~ In Publisher, black is automatically included in spot color printing. If you choose black plus one spot color, Publisher converts all colors except for black in your publication to tints of the spot color. If you choose black plus two spot colors, Publisher changes objects that exactly match spot color 2 to 100 percent of that color. All other colors in the publication change to tints of spot color 1. You can, however, fill selected objects or text with spot color 2. |

2 spot colors only
According to the help file, I want to choose two
spot colors... Read your help file again! What you want is NOT 2 spot colors. For some reason Microsoft doesn't think that black is a color (???). It is always black PLUS spot colors. 2 spot colors only
Yes, exactly. I wasn't clear. The problem is that
Publisher is not giving me the option of specifying ALL the colors. It automatically adds in a second spot color (when I only choose one - plus black, of course). This second spot color is a 10% tint of spot color #1. There is no way for me to delete it, no matter which way I try. What ends up happening is that all colors that exactly match spot color #1 (dk green) keep their hue. All black keeps its hue. All other colors (which do not match spot color #3 - the 10% tint) all turn to shades of gray. This should not be happening, according to the help file. What I have tried to do is go all the way down to 1 "spot color" (which by default is black). So I manually change the black to be dark green. Of course, Publisher still adds in the 10% tint of this as a 2nd spot color and I have no control over this. My publication now turns to all shades of spot color #1 (including my graphics, which is what I have been trying to do) except now all my black text has ALSO changed to a shade of spot color #1 (green). This I do not want. So, how do I prevent Publisher from adding in this automatic additional spot color?? Thanks again, and I hope to God this made some sense! 2 spot colors only
A small child turns to Ed, and exclaims: "Look! Look! A post from
!"... Yes, exactly. I wasn't clear. The problem is that Publisher is not giving me the option of specifying ALL the colors. It automatically adds in a second spot color (when I only choose one - plus black, of course). This second spot color is a 10% tint of spot color #1. If I understand you correctly, you are looking in "Colors", and seeing colors you have not specified. Look under "Inks". These are your actual spot colours. What you see under "Colors" is the tints and shades of the spot colours that are currently in use in the publication. -- Ed Bennett - MVP Microsoft Publisher http://www.mvps.org/the_nerd/ Before reading this message, view the disclaimer: http://mvps.org/the_nerd/disclaim.htm |
