Default How to stop I-beam cursor changing to pointer?

After reinstalling Word 2003, I find that the I-beam cursor changes into the
mouse pointer if I move it beyond the (right) end of a sentence. Before
reinstalling, this did not happen. How can I stop this?

That's the expected behavior -- why do you want to have the I-beam
cursor outside the text itself?

This happens only if you have support for a right-to-left language
installed. Ordinarily, the pointer appears only in the left margin.

Ha! See what happens when you automatically turn on Hebrew, Arabic,
and Syriac support before the first time you use Word!

Suzanne, thanks so much for your answer. Do you know how I can turn off the
right-to-left language support? I tried doing it under Options/Complex
scripts, but that didn't seem to work.

No, but "grammatim" seems to know something about this; perhaps he can help.
My guess would be to disable such languages in Start | Programs | Microsoft
Office | Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft Office [version] Language
Settings.

I've never accessed Microsoft Office Language Settings. I only know
how to use Start Control Panel Regional & Language Options
Language [going by memory for XP] Details and delete languages
from the panel that appears. (In Vista, it's Keyboards & Languages
select the "keyboard(s)" (actually the languages! the part here
labeled "languages" sets the language Windows operates in, not the
languages you can choose from when typing) you don't need and click
Remove.)

That's part of what makes it so confusing: there are language options in so
many different places.

That did the trick. I deselected Hebrew, which is right-to-left, and the
problem disappeared. Thanks a million, Suzanne.
