Blinking screen in OE only
I get a blinking screen in OE only, some times for less than a second,
sometimes about 2 seconds. It always comes back to where it was whether reading or writing an email, or just having OE open. Never had problem until a few months ago and does not occur with other programs or the internet. It just now occurred again for a second as I compose this message. I do regular scans for malware, spyware and viruses. Any one have a clue why? |

Any new programs since this started? Does it happen to coincide with the
time you have set to check for new messages perhaps? Any indexing programs installed such as Windows Search? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Bob" wrote in message ... Does not seem to coincide with anything other than when OE is open. (just
did it again as I compose this). No indexing programs installed, nor any others that may have caused this - to the best of my knowledge. If was occurring with other programs and when on the internet - especially large file downloads or videos I'd suspect limited RAM or my video card, but that does not seem to be the case. Just OE! You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it. Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. I have another email identity with my ISP using OE; I just went on that for
several minutes and sure enough I got the momentary blank again. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. Blinking screen in OE only
My best guess is that some third party program is interfering with OE.
You're going to have to try and diagnose it. I would start with shutting down all startup programs. Go to Start | Run and type in: msconfig OK. Under the Startup tab, uncheck everything. A reboot will be needed. If your AV program does not start, that's OK for now, just don't connect to the internet. Check OE. If all is well, go back to msconfig and recheck programs until you find the culprit. You will see that Windows already rechecked some system programs, just check one that isn't checked and go from there. If your AV isn't checked, start with that program. If you see any programs that don't need to run at startup, a printer for example, don't even bother rechecking it. The less checked = a quicker startup. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Bob" wrote in message ... Blinking screen in OE only
Thanks Bruce, I'll work on that later. In the mean time I should mention
that I have dual monitors, each of which is connected to a different video card. I just moved the OE window to the other monitor and will leave it there for a while to see if the blinking occurs there. Perhaps that will prove that one of my video cards is the culprit - though the problem only comes up with OE. I have my internet and most other programs opening on that monitor (now the same one as OE) This is so much fun - playing computer sleuth. . . Bob "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
