problem

Norton Antivirus from running on emails and I have tried turning off
Norton Internet Security, with no success. I have read the Microsoft
article on how to remove IE 6 and I am completely confused. The only
thing it seems to talk about is changing registries. Quite frankly, the
process described in the article seems well above my skill level (I've
had
my computer about 6 months). Has anyone had this problem before? And
can
anyone advise me on a simplified method of removing and reinstalling
Outlook Express? Is this something a novice can do or do I need to call

What is the exact error message?

Yes I was. I'm not smart enough to do anything else :-) Thanks for taking

Hi Karen,

A novice, or even someone with experience in other (PC) areas of knowledge,
can make a basic mistake setting up an e-mail account. I would remove the
account that has been added, and then very carefully follow the instructions
for adding the chirpmail account. I could suggest other lower cost ISP
alternatives -- if all else fails.

Maybe this will be the ticket from the ISP known as Cricket.

Hi Tim,
I'm not sure I understand. I have had Cricket as my ISP since I bought the
computer. Until a few days ago I never had this problem. I have checked my
settings and they are correct by the Cricket set up link. Do you want me to
elilinate Cricket? If I do so how do I reconnect to the internet? I'm
sorry if these questions seem stupid but I am so confused. I have printed
out about 50 pages of knowledge articles from the Microsoft site and no
longer know which way is up. Thank you again for your help.

Hi Karen,

If this happened without any changes on your part there is good chance it's
a server issue. Tech support is often not aware of these problems. Mail
servers sometimes go down for maintenance reasons. The time it takes to get
things back to normal varies with ISP. Sometimes an e-mail to support will
result in a definitive answer. It can be easy to be caught in a wild-goose
chase. I would use their Web mail for now and check one or twice a day with
Outlook Express.

I was not suggesting you eliminate your dial-up connection. If the problem
persist for several days then the choice of using another ISP could be
considered. A try would be to delete the e-mail account in Outlook Express
and add it back.

Thank you, I understand (finally). It certainly does feel like a wild goose
chase. So in your opinion, you don't think I should uninstall Outlook
Express and reinstall it? I would certainly like to avoid it if possible
because the process seems daunting to say the least. I will try to delete
my email account and add it again. Thank you for your generous help.

If you create a new Named Identity (FileIdentitiesAdd new identity),
configure the account in it and the problem persists, chances are the
problem is on the server's end.

Thank you Robear. I did as you suggest and still get the same error
message. So I guess I'll have to hang on for awhile because the ISP is
convinced the problem is mine. I really appreciate everything everyone did

If they were all on AOL it looks like chirpmail.net is blocking AOL. You
