Will I lose Access 2002 if I install Office 2003
I have Office XP professional loaded on my XP Home Version computer.
It includes Access. I have purchased a student/teacher edition of office 2003 (it does not contain Access). If I load the new software, will I still have Access available, or will it be overwritten and gone? |

That all depends if you uninstall (remove) Office XP (2002) when you perform
the Office 2003 installation. If you DON'T want to keep Word XP, Excel XP, PowerPoint XP, Outlook XP, and/or any other Office XP program, I'd suggest that you uninstall these Office components using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel prior to (before) installing Office XP. How to uninstall Microsoft Office XP via the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel: First, exit ALL running Microsoft Office XP programs. Click Start. Point to Settings. Click on (or point to) Control Panel. Double-click (or single-click) on Add/Remove Programs. Find Microsoft Office Student & Teacher Edition XP and click on it. Click on Change. Now unselect the items you wish to uninstall (remove). All of the Office XP programs that you WISH TO KEEP (i.e. Access XP) should REMAIN SELECTED. NOTE: The Office Shortcut Bar is NOT included in Office 2003! http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822573 If you wish to continue using the Office Shortcut Bar, you WILL need to use an earlier version of Office (i.e. Office XP). I just want to update the programs that are duplicated. I have a
LOT of information saved in Outlook. I'm afraid that your "uninstall XP before loading 2003" idea would blow away that irretrievable data. Is that right? The objective is to have the latest version of all available office products without losing any (or the data that's saved with it) On Tue, 31 Aug 2004 19:49:55 -0400, "Timothy L" wrote: That all depends if you uninstall (remove) Office XP (2002) when you perform the Office 2003 installation. Your Outlook XP data should be somewhere in the \Documents and Settings\
folder on drive C (or the drive that Windows is loaded on). This data should remain even if you uninstall Outlook XP. The exact location will be different depending on what your log on name is for Windows. (i.e. if you log on as "Mark" when you start Windows, then you would find the \Mark\ folder within the \Documents and Settings\ folder). The information you would be looking for would be in (by default): C:\Documents and Settings\---NAME--HERE---\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ For you, it might be (if you use "Mark" as your Windows log on name): C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ You'd be looking for a file called Outlook.pst The Type column next to it may say "Office Data File" if you don't see the ..pst extension at the end. (in Details view) Additional Office settings files can also be found in: C:\Documents and Settings\---NAME--HERE---\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\ For you, it might be: C:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\ Of course, you can always keep Outlook XP, install Office 2003 (and select Outlook 2003 as one of the components, along with anything else), restart your computer (if asked), run Outlook 2003 and go through the Import and Export wizard (if it doesn't start, choose Import and Export from the File menu). Then once all of your Outlook XP info, accounts, messages, rules, and what-not is in Outlook 2003, you can then remove Outlook XP. Also, be sure to check for updates after you have installed Office 2003 at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/ If you wish, you can download the Office 2003 SP1 update now and run it after you install Office 2003. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en There are 2 files listed on that page. Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe download this if you HAVE access to your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe download this if you DO NOT have access to your Office/PowerPoint 2003 CD or if you experienced problems installing the Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe file I would recommend that you download Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe so that you won't need to get your Office 2003 CD.
