Default Avery 8167 Label Template Wrong

Word 2003's Avery Label Templates rarely agree with the actual label
printing process. They almost always allow printing to "creep" up or down
the page with text overflowing the label edges. If properly aligned at the
top, the text prints slightly higher on each label vertically below the
first overlapping label edges significantly by the time it prints on the
bottom label in a column. That holds true for the six-up and 20 up labels
in addition to the Avery 8167 (80-up) labels.

However, on the Avery 8167 labels the template is even worse. The template
shows a roughly ¼" gutter between the 1st & 2nd columns of labels. However
the actual approximate ¼" gutter is between the 2nd & 3rd columns on the
label stock.

Is there any way I can adjust the Avery 8167 Label Template to make it
conform to the actual label stock?

There does seem to be something wrong with the dimensions of that label as
the sum of the horizontal pitch and the margins exceeds the page width. You
can however adjust it, either in the Label Options dialog by click on
Details, or by clicking on the New Document button. A document containing a
page of labels will then appear. If you do not see them, click on the Show
gridlines item under the Tables menu (labels are just tables with fixed cell
dimensions). Then if you take a ruler and accurately measure the dimensions
of the labels, you can make adjustments to the width of the columns so that
they match your measurements.

Your other problem about creep however is quite likely to be caused by the
inability of the print to accurately handle the label stock. Print the
labels to plain paper and see how they then line up with a sheet of labels.

Hope this helps.
