Default Excel Help Please

Hi when i enter my accounts like so 12.50, the decimal
point changes to a square. can anyone help.

Then it is obviously not a decimal point.
Try =LEN(A2) if the length is 5 then
try =CODE(MID(A2,3,1))

you could try copying out the character and replacing (ctrl+H)
and changing it to a decimal point. If that doesn't work tell us
what the code value is

you can use ALT+nnnn where n is a four digit number
from CODE that you can type
on the numeric keypad (NOT the number row) as the from
and the period as the to value.
